Protecting Our Environment

Climate Change:

Fact: A sheet of gases that acts like a greenhouse (conservatory) covers the earth.  This process occurs when the sun  warms up the earth, and then traps the heat close to it. It is a good phenomenon because we cannot live without this heat.

The problem is that cars, factories, electric power plants are emitting too much greenhouse gases into the air. These gases are called Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Scientists believe that the extra CO2.  is changing the climate of  our planet because the sheet is holding too much heat : we call it greenhouse effect or global warming.

Probable Outcome:

If the temperature keeps increasing a few degrees on a consistent basis, the polar ice will melt, raising the level of the oceans and ultimately wiping out islands and coastal areas. A large amount of sea life will die, more hurricanes will occur, devastating floods will occur, etc.

What can we do?

We can start by using less energy, protecting and planting trees, recycling, creating less pollution and saving clean water. We want our planet to be our big star!

Thinking Green:

When the Earth is Green, it becomes a healthy planet. The plants are growing, the soil is healthy, the air is clean, there is a lot of water and the animals have places to live and things to eat.

All of us can help to keep the Earth Green. It is easy: for example, the trees help fight global warming and give us oxygen, which is the air we need to live.

Things we can do for the environment:

  1. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle  your Bags
  2. Say NO to the bags that you do not really need! What a waste
  3. Bags are made from Earth’s treasures. Paper bags, are made out of trees; plastic bags are made from oil. Manufacturing both of them adds more to our energy consumption

What can you do?

  1. When you buy something small, tell the clerk you do not need a bag for it.
  2. Save our forests, Plant a tree.  Trees gives us paper, fruits, nuts, lumber, places for birds and animals to live, shade, places for kids to climb, helps keep our air clean and help fight  global warming  by absorbing Carbon Dioxide.
  3. Protect our animals, Don’t Litter: Candy wrappers, soda cans, old newspapers, cigarette butts, drink containers and other garbage on the ground make it look as though no one cares for the Earth. Furthermore, there is a worst effect when we litter. It is harmful to animals. It can even kill them. Therefore, every time you get ready to throw away your trash, think of the damage you may be causing.

What you can do: Throw away garbage in trash cans, not on the ground. If you see trash lying on the ground, take time to pick it up and put it in a garbage container.

Conserving our Precious  Water

The Planet Earth is mostly covered with water. The oceans cover the biggest part of it, but there are also lakes, rivers, streams and even underground water sources. All life on Earth depends on this water. We need to work hard to keeping the water clean. In many places, the water has become polluted and dangerous.

We need to save our water, we need to keep it clean and healthy. There are many ways to conserve our precious water:

What you can do:

  1. When you brush your teeth: if you leave the water running as you are brushing them, you can waste up to 5 gallons of water or 12 liters. That is enough to fill 53 cans of soda.

Suggestion: When you brush your teeth, just wet your brush, then turn off the water… and then turn it on again when you need to rinse your brush off. You will save a lot of water.

  1. When you wash dishes by hand, fill up the basin and rinse the dishes in it, instead of letting the water run, you can save enough water to take a 5-10 minute shower.
  1. When you wash your hands turn the water off while you are using the soap, then turn it back to rinse.

SMALL STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO SAVE OUR PLANET!

WHAT WILL YOU DO TODAY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?
