Student Success: Rosa Estrada Ramírez
By: Dora Medrano Ortuño, Volunteer Instructor

Rosa Estrada Ramírez lives in Sucre, the capital of the Chuquisaca department in Bolivia. Rosa came from a rural area where education is limited and most of her time was spent taking care of her children. While her husband pastored, Rosa would clean the church and wished that she you could one day read the Bible and learn other ways to help her husband support their family financially.

Through Alfalit’s free literacy programs, Rosa learned how to read, write, and do math. She was able to advance to Alfalit’s job skills program which provided her with basic chef training.

Rosa was also able to gain valuable knowledge that helped start her own food business in Barrio Palestina. She is well known among locals for her chicken dinners and hopes to continue to grow her business.
